Requiem for a Dream (DVD)

What it's about: How four different people: Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto), his girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly), his long time friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) and his widowed mother Sarah Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) get seriously messed up when they become addicted to cocaine/heroine and diet pills. Their lives are shattered as well as their dreams. I think it was a good portrayal of what the world of addicts must be like. It showed just how far/low they are willing to go to get their fix.

What I thought of it: I like this type of "too real for comfort" movie. The filming was interesting, with the sound effects, etc. Leto was very convincing as an addict, and I must say that Marlon Wayans was also good - he can act "seriously" if he wants to, and that was nice to see. Mrs Burstyn was also quite convincing as a lonely, diet pills addict. She played her role very well.

My favorite scene/quote:

Sara Goldfarb: [examining her newly dyed hair] Well then... what's orange? If this is red, I wanna know, what's orange?

Sara Goldfarb: How come you know more about medicine than a doctor?
Harry Goldfarb: Believe me, Ma, I know.

I was asked by Ashley to review this, and I'm sort of glad I did.
Rent it, I think it should be seen by both addicts and non-addicts alike.

I've never actually made it all the way through this movie. I've tried watching it three times, and I kept getting interrupted with important things. I figured that this was fate's way of telling me to stay away from this film. Maybe someday I'll try checking it out again.

Welcome greg! It's not a film to "semi-watched", it's a bit too weird for that...
