V for Vendetta (DVD)

What it's about: A masked man, V (played by Hugo Weaving) plots terrorist acts and murders to free his society from totallitarism. In the process a young woman, Evey (played by Natalie Portman) helps him and he helps her back in return to free herself of her fears. Set in London.

What I thought of it: I really enjoyed it. A bit long (aver 2 hours), but I really liked it. Was better than anticipated. Made me think of the Nazi experiments and 1984. Some violence and blood scenes, but very well done - cool effects. Good story of how one man's idea can help a society react...

My favorite scene/quote:

V: People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

V: ...The building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols are given power by people. Alone, a symbol is meaningless, but with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world.

Evey: Does it have a happy ending?
V: As only celluloid can deliver.

[after a hail of gunfire doesn't stop V]
Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

I just love that last quote!

A good rental to see!

RV (DVD)

What it's about: A man (Robin Williams) and his family rent a RV to go on a vacation in the Rockies (Colorado), and in the process encountered many little chalenges... and some interesting fellow campers (like the Gornike's).

What I thought of it: I don't really know what I thought of it. It is a Robin Williams movie, so some scenes are very funny (physical comedy), and like most his comedy there's a touch of lovey-dovey family issues.

My favorite scene/quote:

As they are (the family) about to leave for their road trip:
Bob Munro: Welcome aboard, everybody. Before we embark, I think we should give this beauty a name. Suggestions?
Cassie Munro: The Turd.
Carl Munro: The Big Rolling Turd?
Bob Munro: In that spirit, we set forth.

As they are trying to "escape" the Gornike's:
Jamie Munro: I feel like that hitchhiker in The Twilight Zone.
Cassie Munro: What do they like about us? We're not even that appealing.

Bob Munro: [Really needs to use the toilet] I've got an ICBM coming!
[Mutters to himself]
Bob Munro: If there's a poop fairy, I can make a lot of money.

It was ok for a rental, but not my favourite Williams... even if I like him a lot!

Silent Hill (DVD)

What it's about: A woman's (Rahda Mitchell, playing Rose) search for her daughter (Jodelle Ferland, playing Sharon & Alessa) who disapeared in this abandoned town, Silent Hill, inhabited by dark "spirits", monsters type creatures...

What I thought of it: I picked it and I enjoyed it. Through it all I kept thinking that whomever came up with this story has a VERY warp mind and must have some serious nightmares! It's a scary movie, no doubts about it! It's weird, it's creepy, twisted and yet I enjoyed it.

While watching the "Making of" I learned that it was based on a Japanese video game, that is said to be very scary! They did a very good job at re-creating it (the scary part that is)!

My favorite scene/quote: I really loved the creatures and especially the way they moved, really cool & creepy!

Officer Gucci (played by Kim Coates): What is it gonna be, city boy? I can put you in jail, or you can go home.
Christopher DaSilva (played by Sean Bean): And that's your definition of justice, huh?
Officer Gucci: Many different forms of justice, Chris. See, you got man's, God's and even the devil's. Certain forms you just can't control.

Dahlia Gillespie (played by Deborah Kara Unger): Fire doesn't cleanse, it blackens!

and finally:

Dahlia Gillespie: Why didn't she take me? Like the others?
Rose: Because you're her mother. Mother is God in the eyes of a child.

If you feel like a good weird, creepy movie, rent it - it's great!
To be watched in the dark! Of course!!!

Charles Aznavour's Farewell Tour

What it's about: Last night we went to "La Place des Arts", Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier to see an amazing concert given by this little 82 years French (sons of Armenian emmigrants) old man that is Charles Aznavour, The Frank Sinatra of the French! My favourite aunt used to listen to his records all the time, and as I grew older I learned to like his style and his meaningful lyrics.

He was on stage with 10 musicians, including 2 chorist-singers. He gave a 2 hour show, no intermission. He wrote over 800 songs, and did his selected "Best Of"

What I thought of it: I've been wanting to see him for a while now, so when I heard (a few months ago alreday) that he would come to Montreal, yet again, for his Farewell Tour, I told my husband we just had to go. He also grew up with his grand-mother listening to those songs. Hubby managed to get us tickets - they were expensive, but worth every penny! All 2,982 seats were filled with people of all ages, surprisingly enough, even if the majority of the crowd was a little older...

My favorite scene/quote: I have a few favourites among his successes, like "Emmenez-moi", or "Les Comédiens" or "Hier Encore". His voice is still so strong and crisp. I truly enjoyed the show, and I must say that once or twice I had to wipe a few terars as all the memories from my favourite aunt came rushing back to me...
